Gado-Gado - - Indonesian Salad

Gado-gado is an Indonesian dish, comprising boiled vegetables and peanut sauce dressing, mixed with slices of egg and springkled on top with fried sliched onions.
Not like a western salad with light dressing sauce, the vegetables in gado-gado should be well coated with sauce in it.
Indonesian people usually eat gado-gado along with rice or lontong.



Ingredients :

Vegetable Salad

Vegetables use to cook gado-gado can be various depend on your taste, usually comprising some of mixture of :
  • sliched and boiled green vegetables such as cabbage, corn, water spinach, bean sprouts, string bean, carrot and young jackfruit (you can also mix whatever green vegetables available on your country).
  • uncooked vegetables --sliched cucumber, lettuce
  • fried Tofu and Tempeh (can also add with fried meat or chicken)
  • sliched boiled eeg and potatoes

Peanut Sauce Dressing

  • ground fried peanuts (fried cashews can also used as subtitute).
  • coconut sugar/palm sugar/brown sugar
  • boiled chillies
  • lime juice (just one or two teaspoon)
  • fried terasi (dried shrimp paste)
  • tamarind water (boiled 100ml water with peeled two or four tamarind) or water to dilute.
Blended ground fried peanuts along with coconut sugar, boiled chillies, and terasi with 5 teaspoons of tamarind water or water. Then dress the peanut sauce on top of vegetables and springkled it with fried sliched onions and litle bit of ketchup.
